   3. KATAMA POINT PRESERVE

Size
2.1 Acres

Description
This property supplies a glimmer of how this part of Katama used to look, before suburbanization claimed it. It is grassy and flat, and its wide-angle waterviews extend from Edgartown center to Norton Point beach. The swimming here is strange -- on the south side the stony bottom is shallow for meters and meters out from the beach -- but pleasant.

Uses
Nature study, hiking, picnicking, mountain-biking, dog-walking, fishing, swimming, scenic vista.

Directions
Turn left off the Katama Road 1.7 miles past its split with the Herring Creek Road; this is Edgartown Bay Road. Preserve is on left 0.7 miles down this road; bicycle rack is located on-premises but automobiles must park at the town landing 750 feet beyond the preserve.
