   42. SWEETENED WATER PRESERVE

Size
11.4 Acres

Description
Edgartown takes justifiable pride in its scenic West Tisbury Road, which is the occidental entrance into town center. Formerly overgrown and hosting a prominent house, this property was restored to open grassland via the off-premises relocation of the house and a round of mowing by the land bank. As a result, the land now blends into the road’s long corridor of fields and the mowing has exposed the blue disk of the Sweetened Water Pond. Dog-walking (leashing required April 15 - July 30); universal access (easy terrain).

Uses
Nature study, hiking, picnicking, mountain-biking, horseback-riding, dog-walking.

Directions
Start at the intersection of Cooke Street and West Tisbury Road. Travel west 0.8 miles on the West Tisbury Road; park on the right at the town’s Jernegan’s Pond and cross the road to visit the property. Universal access space is located on the south side of the road.
