   60. SOUTHERN WOODLANDS RESERVATION*

Size
234 Acres

Description
Motorists on the Barnes Road cannot fail to notice the sloping bluffs which rise from the tar, just opposite the Head of the Lagoon Pond. This escarpment marks the westerly edge of Oak Bluffs’ southern woodlands, which stretch as far as the County Road. A portion was formerly known to islanders as Webbs Camping Area; the land bank will investigate the feasibility of re-establishing a public campground here.

Uses

Directions
The land bank is currently conducting a natural resources inventory here, precedent to preparing a management plan. The existing ancient ways crossing the property are open for use; hikers should park in the Featherstone Farm trailhead (see property no. 32).
