Tisbury Meadow Preserve

This property’s rippling and open acres along the State Road, kept grassy in the summer by the land bank’s goat herd, are a marker of the beginning of up-island rural Martha’s Vineyard. Located at the base of these acclivities and declivities is the Mai Fane House, a farmstead whose scale in the context of the fields is a reminder of Vineyard architectural standards prevalent until the most recent decades.  Notable is the white oak near the hilltop with its shapely crown.  Geologists will especially like the red trail in the woodlands, as it follows the crest of a long esker.
